This cigar has a creamy brown, slightly rustic wrapper with a slight oily sheen. Sweet cedar notes are detected on the pre-light taste with a faint noise that has some hay and sweet earthy traits. The cigar has a draw like a straw, which lets big clouds of dense creamy smoke hit the palate with ease. There are noticeable spicy notes in the nose with a consistent creamy texture in the mouth. Overall the cigar had a mild start and finished medium bodied with a luring aroma. Easy going character without too many developments, but offered a lot of nice flavor and aromas from the first puff. Consistent black pepper spices with woody traits through the nose. A classic cigar with a mild-medium body, excellent balance and outstanding construction through and through. Highly recommended for those who want a flavorful creamy cigar in a larger format.
Ashton VSG cigars are extremely well-made gems from the Dominican Republic that represent one of the cigar world's most prized non-Cuban cigars. The tobaccos used are exquisite, making each cigar within the line a homerun from start to finish. Taken from the tobacco plant's highest primings, the Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper offers a rich, reddish hue and spicy, chewy flavor. The 4-5 year old Dominican long-fillers are masterfully blended to promote a smooth, but eventful flavor that's hearty and robust. Together, these tobaccos combine to satisfy even the most achieved palates.
Ashton Aged Maduro is rare because of its selected and extremely limited Connecticut broad leaf wrapper. Many a wrapper leaf is picked, but few are chosen for our Ashton Aged Maduro. The initial sweet taste comes from the wrapper, but once lit, the cigar becomes rich and nutty much like great Madeira or Tawny Port, whose distinct flavor comes from aging in Sherry finished French oak barrels. Our Ashton Aged Maduro's rich distinct flavor comes from the never hurried natural fermentation of the wrapper, which encourages its natural sweetness. The wrapper and aged filler creates a rich and complex flavor elevating the Ashton Aged Maduro to a class all its own.
When it comes to Ashton cigars, top-notch quality is a given. So what makes the Ashton Cabinet Selection special and worth the extra couple of shillings over the Ashton Classic line? I'm glad you asked. Ashton Cabinet Selection cigars utilize a 4-5 year aged blend of Dominican long-fillers adorned with a top-grade Connecticut shade wrapper leaf that's been aged for a full 12 months longer than the wrapper leaf on Ashton Classic. The result is a smooth, elegant profile that's crisp, clean and layered with notes of oak, cedar, pepper, cream, and coffee. Expensive, yes, but likely worth every penny.
